Galatasaray stamp three-set home win to progress to Challenge Round
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Istanbul, Turkey, January 22, 2015. Turkey’s Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL cruised to a 3:0 home victory (25-19, 25-11, 25-20) on Thursday night at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall to avenge their 2:3 loss from last week and edge past Poland’s Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA thereby claiming a spot in the Challenge Round of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women. The hosts dominated the match from start to end and this way joined Russia’s Dinamo KRASNODAR and France’s BEZIERS VB in the next round of competition to play there one of the teams relegated after the end of the prelims in the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.
If the young home-grown middle blocker of Galatasaray, Asli Kalac, delighted the fans with her blocks, the trio comprising of Floortje Meijners, Caterina Bosetti and Nadia Centoni did much of the work in attack and defence. A good share of the credit for this success goes also to the other middle blocker of the home team, Ayse Melis Gürkaynak, and to setter Gamze Alikaya.
After the match head coach Massimo Barbolini commented: “If you look at the final score you may think that this was an easy victory for us. However, everyone should understand that this game was very difficult. We must be proud of our players and of their performance in this re-match with Tauron MKS.”
