VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN down Austrian vice-champions in three sets
2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men

Klagenfurt, Austria, January 21, 2015. The 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men stopped in Klagenfurt for the last time in the current season, but the local heroes could not live up to the expectations of the club’s management and of the 2,200 fans in attendance at Sportpark losing their last home match in three sets to Germany’s standout VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN (19-25, 23-25, 15-15). At times Posojilnica AICH/DOB fought with eager determination and delighted its audience with spectacular actions, but the German record-holders controlled most of the game and with this result cemented their second place in Pool D.

The match began with a thrilling fight on both sides, the scoreboard showing 8:7 at the first technical time-out. Both teams put a lot of pressure on their opponent taking lots of risks from the service line. Even though the guests started setting the rhythm (10:14), the local heroes fought back with eager determination (14:14). A neck-to-neck race with delightful actions followed (18:18), but in the end VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN wrapped it up at 19-25.

AICH/DOB came back strong in the second set leading the way by 3:0, but it didn’t take long until the guests clawed back to set the pace of the game once more (6:8). The players from the Lake of Constance widened their lead to four points (7:11) and that negative trend continued for the locals also later on in the set (13:16). AICH/DOB tried to keep the score in balance (18:18) showing excellent serving and spiking (22:22), but the Germans could prevent any further comeback by the home heroes and closed it out at 23-25.
 
VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN caught the better start also in the third set (6:8) and pressured the locals from the service line to extend their margin to five points (6:11). AICH/DOB tried to get back on track, but was not able to keep the pace of their guests (7:16). The locals really put every effort in catching up with the German heavyweight (13:22), but this evening FRIEDRICHSHAFEN seemed to be unbeatable and easily claimed also the third set by the score of 15-25.
