SCHWERINER SC celebrate second victory over Belgian multiple champions to move on to Challenge Cup quarter-finals
2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Schwerin, Germany, January 21, 2015. Germany’s SCHWERINER SC cruised on Tuesday night to a second straight victory over Belgium’s Asterix KIELDRECHT to make the quarter-finals of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women. After routing their opponents in three sets last week in Belgium, SCHWERINER SC claimed a 3:1 win (25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22) to play in the next round the winners of the fixture starring Alterno APELDOORN of the Netherlands and Italy’s Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA.

1,035 fans were in attendance for a match where the guests from Belgium showed their willingness and determination to resist especially by displaying some excellent defence actions. The young Belgians fought bravely and eventually were rewarded for their effort by winning the third set where SCHWERINER SC head coach Felix Koslowski decided to rest some of his starting players as their 2:0 lead had already secured the promotion to the next round. Though SCHWERINER SC won the match in four sets, it is interesting to note that the best scorer, best server and best receiver at the end of the match were all players from Asterix. The only top performance for the hosts was achieved by Yvon Beliën who was the most prolific blocker. Even though the stats may speak differently, in the end Asterix had to accept another defeat as the Belgians could rarely pose a real threat to the Germans on Tuesday night.

SCHWERINER SC caught a good start and came out with all guns blazing as their team work was just outstanding and well orchestrated by their Bulgarian setter Diana Nenova. The block shown by SCHWERINER SC was also something that the players of Asterix could hardly cope with and the Germans in the end could celebrate a well-deserved victory.
