Agde, France, January 20, 2015. In a high-level game played in Agde, BEZIERS VB shut out Naturhouse Ciudad de LOGRONO by 3:0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20). Victorious in three sets also in the first leg, the Biterroises convincingly qualified for the Challenge Round of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women.
With Norwegian Mari Hole serving, BEZIERS attacked hard, led by Genevieve Mann who excelled in blocking, and wrote the first nine points of the game. Taking advantage of its players' experience, Naturhouse gradually narrowed its deficit down to 14-17. The time-out requested by Cyril Ong, BEZIERS’ coach, brought results. An ace by Rebecca Pavan gave a set ball to BEZIERS and Bojana Markovic closed it off at 25-18 on a superb smash.
For the Spanish visitors it was imperative to win the second set to hope to continue the adventure. The fight was fierce. Naturhouse fed on Biterroises’ faults and believing in their lucky star, put on a tireless battle for each point. But Pavan prepared her 1.92 m of barbed block and the Angels broke away to a 19-11, prompting a Spanish time-out. Nothing helped and the Angels were flying on the wings of the approaching qualification. Eventually, Hole and Mann were responsible for putting an end to any suspense at 25-14.
With the ticket to the next round already in his pocket, BEZIERS’ coach could afford to rotate his squad and bring his young players on. Grabbing handfuls of this unprecedented chance to play in European quarterfinals, the young hopefuls ensured the show. The Spanish opponent battled on for every ball, but the Angels did not go so far as to miss the opportunity to shine in front of their own fans and in the most beautiful way reached the deserved victory at 25-20.
