Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland, January 14, 2015. Poland's Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA defeated Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL by 3:2 (25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-9) after a five-set battle in the first quarterfinal leg of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women.
After beating the champion of Poland, Chemik POLICE, Tauron MKS was prepared and motivated for the match with Galatasaray. In the beginning of the first set it was easy to see this motivation. Perfect serves and effective blocks gave the Polish team a simple win 25-17.
In the second set the situation changed by 180 degrees. Galatasaray Daikin served perfectly and prevented the Polish team from using any situation in attack. The girls of coach Massimo Barbolini won this set by 25-20.
The third set was very even in the beginning, but then the initiative belonged to Tauron MKS. A great game was played by Katarzyna Konieczna who scored a lot of points and the Polish team won by 25-21.
The fourth set was similar to the second. Effective performance by Floortje Meijners and Caterina Bosetti made sure the advantage of Galatasaray grew quickly. The Turkish team was consistent and won by 25-17.
Tauron MKS was back in the game for the tie-breaker. They were controlling the situation until the end and won the set by 15-9 and the match by 3:2.
"Congratulations to the team of Tauron," said Massimo Barbolini, head coach of Galatasaray Daikin. "I think they played a very good match, they fought until the end and for sure deserved to win this match."
'We are happy because of the victory," said Juan Manuel Serramalera, head coach of Tauron MKS. "There were many ups and downs from both teams. We are lucky that in the fifth set we found the way to turn the game from the beginning and we won."
