Galatasaray’s men keep on going in Challenge Cup
2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men
Istanbul, Turkey, January 13, 2015. After starting the season by saying they would just take it match by match, Turkey’s Galatasaray FXTCR ISTANBUL are only one step away from making the quarter-finals of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men following their straight-set victory (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) on Tuesday night over Slovakia’s Chemes SPISSKA NOVA VES.
The hosts – who have exceeded all expectations by finishing the first half of the regular season in Turkey’s national league in fourth place – played a superb match at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall in Istanbul. Galatasaray has been performing well since the beginning of the season even though this year their roster is composed of many young players. On Tuesday night they had to stand some strong serving by their Slovakian opponents and even though in some cases their serve reception was not perfect, they kept on going with their outside spikers Kamil Baranek and Filip Rejlek, best scorer in the end with 5 points. Their block was also solid and Samuele Tuia added some aces to the count of the home side thereby paving the way for a 3:0 home victory, waiting now for the return match coming up next week in Slovakia.
“It is going to be a lot harder next week in Slovakia,” commented Galatasaray head coach Flavio Gulinelli. “We know already that Chemes is a team with a long tradition also in the European Cups. I am quite sure that there is going to be a hot atmosphere on January 21 once we play the second match there at Mestska Sportova Hala.”
