Youngest 'Red Dragons' set their sight on Final Round ticket
2015 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship - Men
Brussels, Belgium, January 7, 2015. Another generation of ‘Red Dragons’ is ready to spit fire. Belgium’s U19 national team needed only five hours to travel to their home base in Vilvoorde – in the suburbs of Brussels – to Frankfurt, Germany, where this week they will be vying for a spot in the Final Round of the 2015 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship scheduled to take place through April 4-12 in Sakarya and Kocaeli, Turkey.
Their head coach and mentor Maarten Deroey sounds confident about the potential of his players: “We are not afraid of any of the opponents we are going to play there. Still our task remains difficult since Germany can rely on the home advantage. Germany is going to be our toughest opponent. If they organise such tournament at home, it shows that they are really determined to clinch that ticket to the Final Round. Moreover, they won a silver medal at the Eight Nations Tournament held last year in Valladolid, Spain, losing a very dramatic and close final to Italy. So this speaks for their value and potential.”
“We also do not underestimate Israel and Norway at all,” Deroey adds. “Both these teams can play a key role in our Pool. However, we absolutely have to beat them if we want to stay in contention for qualification to the Final Round once we play Germany on Sunday in the last match of the tournament.”
