Atomic girls celebrate successful CEV Cup debut
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Sopot, Poland, December 12, 2014. Poland’s PGE Atom Trefl SOPOT celebrated on Thursday night a successful debut in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women as the Atomic girls cruised to a straight-set victory (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) over Belgium’s Gea Happel Amigos ZOERSEL in their home match on schedule for the 8th finals. This way Atom Trefl made a first step forward on their way to the quarter-finals where they would play the winners of the fixture starring Italy’s Prosecco Doc-Imoco CONEGLIANO and Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR of Slovenia.
“Of course the away match in Zoersel will be taking place in a venue that we are not familiar with, but we will adjust to it as we have done with all other away matches,” says libero Agata Durajczyk. “Our priority is to focus on our reception and if we manage to perform well in this fundamental, everything should go just fine.”
Though they won all sets quite comfortably, the Atomic girls made also many mistakes and this way they ‘presented’ their opponents from Belgium with some easy points. “Maybe we lost some points along the way because of our service errors, but we definitely had full control over this game,” says back-up setter Anna Kaczmar who got a chance to perform in the match after head coach Lorenzo Micelli decided to rest team captain and veteran Izabela Belcik.
The Atomic girls were well paced by their opposite Katarzyna Zaroslinska who finished the match with 60% of efficiency and 16 points on her account.
