Tauron MKS edge past current leaders of Romanian league
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Dabrowa
Gornicza, Poland, December 10, 2014. Poland’s Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA
continued their campaign in the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup by
cruising to a 3:1 (25-22, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22) home victory over Romania’s CS Volei Alba BLAJ in the first
round of the 8th finals.
The guests from Romania – the current leaders of their
national league – started out strong but the hosts did not give in and by
improving their efficiency in attack they took control of the game and
eventually brought the first set to an end at 25-22. The second set was really
one-sided with Tauron MKS showing perfect blocking to get an early lead and
hold on to it to finish it off at 25-16.
The short break between the second and third sets
apparently helped the guests from Romania to regroup as the players mentored by
Darko Zakoc showed some impeccable defence and great serving to lead from the
start to the end of the third set and bring it home with the score of 25-19.
The fourth set was the closest one with the teams
exchanging the lead back and forth many times but in the end Tauron MKS edged
past (25-22) on an excellent serving series by Katarzyna Konieczna.
The re-match is scheduled for next Wednesday, December
17, in Romania and Tauron MKS will have to take another two sets to secure
their promotion to the next round.
