Zaksa take on Finnish ‘Goats’ after edging past Suomi ‘Tigers’
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Poland, December 1, 2014. Poland’s Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE will be playing another team from Finland in the second stage of their campaign in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. After edging past Tiikerit KOKKOLA, aka Finland’s ‘Tigers’, in the round of 32, their next opponent in the competition is VaLePa SASTAMALA. The home match is coming up on Wednesday, December 3, before the return game follows two weeks later in Finland.
Zaksa got the right boost for their second match up with a Finnish team last Sunday as the group around setter Pawel Zagumny routed in three sets BBTS BIELSKO-BIALA in the last round of the national league. “It was a good test and I had the opportunity to try out some combinations and line-ups that may be useful also for our matches with VaLePa,” says Zaksa head coach Sebastian Swiderski. “We know that similarly to Tiikerit KOKKOLA, VaLePa SASTAMALA also have two excellent players on their roster and we will have to keep this in mind during our matches.”
After a difficult start of the season, Zaksa got back on track and can boast a winning streak of seven consecutive matches in the Polish national league. They have been helped by their Dutch trio and especially outside spiker Dick Kooy has been in excellent form lately. Their main pivot, nevertheless, remains team captain and setter Pawel Zagumny who has been awarded MVP in two of the last matches played by Zaksa. Jurii Gladyr and Michal Ruciak have also almost fully recovered from the injuries they had suffered earlier this season.
Even though temperatures in Silesia have dropped down to -5 C, something similar to what the players of VaLePa SASTAMALA are used to at home, the local fans – about 2,000 are expected to attend – have promised to create a ‘hot’ ambiance at Azoty sports hall on Wednesday night.
