VDK GENT Dames want to seize the night in their brand-new home
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Gent, Belgium, November 23, 2014. On Wednesday Belgium’s VDK GENT Dames will be trying to seize the night once more when they host Greece’s Olympiacos PIRAEUS in the return match on schedule for the round of 32 of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women. About two weeks ago GENT Dames edged Olympiacos in three sets and now want to repeat that same feat also at home. The match will be played at Edugo Arena, a brand-new sports hall which was inaugurated on October 1 and that only three days later hosted the matches of the Belgian Supercup in a good rehearsal for the European Cups.
Even though the start of their preparations was delayed by the opening of this facility, the players of VDK GENT Dames have been getting into shape lately. After a slow start in the national league with a record of only two wins in five matches, the players mentored by Jonathan De Henau were able to reach the semis of the Belgian national cup where they will be playing VC OUDEGEM – Belgium’s representative in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – on December 27-28. The eventual winners of the Belgian Cup will get the right to represent Belgium in the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.
The team has undergone many changes since last year after hiring De Henau and a new assistant coach as well, Frederik De Veylder. A series of new players were recruited for the 2014/2015 season: Bianca Gommans, Felicia Ann Willoughby, Evi Van der Sichel, Sarah Van Cleemput and Laure Flament.
For the match with Olympiacos, VDK GENT Dames have invited more than 100 young guests from the Edugo School which is the co-user of the hall in Oostakker.
