Macedonian duo shining bright in French national league
News from the clubs

Paris, France, November 13, 2014. Sometimes it is not just about quantity, but rather about quality. The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia may not be able to count on a large number of Volleyball players, but still some are leaving their mark also on the international stage. This is the case, for instance, of Nikola Gjorgiev and Jovica Simovski, two opposite players who are currently both playing in France, and namely for PARIS Volley and GFC AJACCIO. They are two of the most prolific players so far in the French national league and have been performing strong since the start of the season.

Nikola and Jovica share some common features. They are not the tallest players out there but they are extremely powerful and explosive. They can play fast and they also provide their teammates with a lot of energy, thereby also engaging with their fans as well. They are also key members of their national team that last summer debuted in the CEV Volleyball European League making the semis, a historic result for their country.

Though they share so many things, there are also differences. Simovski first moved to France five years ago to play for Arago de SETE. He gradually made a name of himself and is now one of the best opposite players in France’s first division. He played for three different teams over the course of the last five years and always reached the semi-finals of the French championship.

Gjorgiev, on the other hand, is spending his first season in France and has moved to PARIS Volley with a strong background, after spending the past year in Turkey. He has taken up the very demanding task of replacing the former opposite of the team from France’s capital, Mory Sidibé.

Gjorgiev and Simovski crossed their ways for the first time last Sunday when they played each other in the French national league. Gjorgiev and PARIS Volley eventually celebrated a 3-1 victory over AJACCIO, the team that is currently representing France in the CEV Volleyball Cup. However, this was only the first act of a ‘friendly rivalry’ that is certainly going to please France’s Volleyball fans throughout this season.
