Galatasaray strive for excellence also in CEV Cup
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Istanbul, Turkey, November 11, 2014. After participating for two consecutive years in the elite CEV Volleyball Champions League, Turkey’s Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL did not get that same right also for the 2014/2015 season after a rather disappointing home campaign last year. They nevertheless qualified for the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup which they will start on Tuesday, November 11, with a home match against France’s Rocheville LE CANNET.
“As far as organisation and general management are concerned, participation in the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League may seem to require a lot more work,” says Organising Director Neslihan Turan. “However, after participating for two years in that elite competition, we feel obliged to show that same ambition to deliver an excellent job also in the CEV Volleyball Cup and will be trying to do so both on and off the court, even though the requirements are less demanding.”
Even though they signed some experienced players such as Nadia Centoni, Floortje Meijners and Nihan Güneyligil, Galatasaray have a young roster whose average age stands at 22. On the other hand, Rocheville LE CANNET have an even younger group – their average stands at 21 years – including US libero Nicole Davis, who spent one season in Turkey back in 2007.
“We have a young team but nevertheless thrive for victory,” says Galatasaray Team Manager Mehmet Berent Bayrakci. “It is our honour to be able to participate in the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup. We wish good luck to all participating teams.”
