Zaksa looks forward to hosting Finnish ‘Tigers’ in CEV Cup opening round
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Kedzierzyn-Kozle, Poland, October 30, 2014. After finishing fourth in the last edition of the Polish national league, Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE got the right to participate in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. Back in 2011 Zaksa reached the final of this competition eventually losing to Italy’s Sisley TREVISO. After participating in the CEV Volleyball Champions League for a couple of years finishing fourth in 2013, Zaksa had to accept the departure of some of their best players.
Marcin Mozdzonek has moved to Turkey to play for Halkbank ANKARA whereas rising star Grzegorz Bociek has provisionally stopped his career after being diagnosed with a serious disease. Wing spiker Michal Ruciak is also injured. This way Zaksa’s start into the 2014/2015 season was very difficult with the team losing five of the six matches they have contested so far. Fortunately their losing streak came to an end on Wednesday as they routed Banimex BEDZIN in three sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-16) to get back some morale for their debut in the CEV Volleyball Cup against Tiikerit KOKKOLA of Finland.
“It is a very important game because we desperately need victories,” says Zaksa head coach and former international star Sebastian Swiderski. “We will have to play our best because our opponent has some good players, especially Olli-Pekka Ojansivu, who is their main attacking force. Fortunately we did not suffer any more injuries and the league matches were also an opportunity for me to make some tests also setting our sight on the European Cups.”
In their last match with Banimex BEDZIN the Dutch trio including Dick Kooy, Nimir Abdel-Aziz and Kay van Dijk showed a very solid performance and this way Zaksa got ready for the match with the Finnish ‘Tigers’ which is coming up on November 4.
