Kecskemet, Hungary, May 8, 2014. In the 1st Round of qualifications for the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Men, the Hungarian national team will entertain the selections of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Norway and Switzerland for the matches in Pool 2 to take place in Kecskemet from May 9 through 11.
In the current European ranking, Hungary is in the 28th place, Bosnia and Herzegovina is in 32nd, the Swiss team is in 38th, while the Norwegians are in the 45th position. In that sense, the home team may be considered somewhat of a favorite for winning this pool.
"The men's team has improved a lot over the past year, which the Alba Regia Gala showed, and last weekend we could also see the audience," said Csaba Poor, HVF President.
"I am glad to be back in the national team,” said 35-year-old Peter Veres who rejoined the squad after last playing for it in 2008. “There is a great opportunity in front of this young team. I believe that we have a better chance than in recent years. We have to play with fewer mistakes, we must constantly stay focused, and we are able to surprise our opponents."
Another player, Szabolcs Nemeth, noted that head coach György Demeter has some "good material" to work with, and the return of experienced Veres should be a major boost for his young teammates who look up to him.
The roster of the Hungarian national team includes the names of Alpar Szabo, Balazs Bagics, Jozsef Nagy, Balint Magyar, Csanad David, Roland Gergye, Tamas Kaszap, Szabolcs Nemeth, David Molnar, Peter Veres, Arpad Baroti, Peter Farkas, Gabor Toth, Istvan Molnar, Milan Arva, Peter Juhasz and Krisztian Padar under the guidance of head coach György Demeter and assistant coach Sasa Nedeljkovic.
