News from the FIVB

Zurich, Switzerland, May 6, 2014. The coaches of the six teams participating in the 2014 FIVB Women's Club World Championship due to start in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday are expecting a tough competition for the 8th edition and stressed how difficult their mission towards the crown will be.

The six coaches attending the press conference held at Saalsporthalle emphasized the high quality of volleyball they are facing in the competition with the most prominent teams from across the world attending.

The eighth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship is set to start on Wednesday gathering six of the world’s best club teams. They will play two matches a day in the two competition pools in the preliminary round and the top two will proceed to the semifinals.  Europe will be represented by two teams – hosts Volero ZÜRICH and the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women winners Dinamo KAZAN from Russia.

“It was a tough season for us, but we are looking forward to this competition, as we get the possibility to show our real value by facing these strong teams. We want a place on the podium this year,” Volero head coach Dragutin Baltic stated.

Volero is in Pool A of the competition and will face Brazil’s SESI-SP SAO PAULO on Wednesday at 20:00 local time and Algeria’s GS Petroliers ALGIERS on Thursday at the same starting time.

“It is the first time for our team to compete at a FIVB Club World Championship.  We already visited Zurich two times to face Volero in the Champions League.  I think we are physically ready for this experience.  The games will be very interesting as there are a lot of different playing styles,” Dinamo head coach Rishat Gilyazutdinov added.

The European champions will open their Pool B campaign on Thursday at 17:30 local time against Hisamitsu Springs KOBE from Japan and on the following day at 20:00 will lock horns with Brazil’s Molico OSASCO.
