Luxembourg, Luxembourg, April 22, 2014. The U19 women’s national team of Luxembourg returned home from San Marino as champions of the Small Countries Division of the 2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship. Head coach Ranguel Krivov was really pleased with the performance of his squad at this tournament.
“Given that this was not an easy championship for us, the feeling to be on top is very, very pleasant,” the Bulgarian specialist said upon returning to the Grand Duchy. “The participating teams were quite even and the tournament was very competitive. For us it was fortunate that our last game was against the absolute rookie Wales, because with four matches scheduled on three competition days the fatigue was already settling in.”
Luxembourg claimed the title without suffering any losses in the competition. “Our side was the one best prepared to play as a team,” Krivov shared the secret of this success. “What made us different from our opponents was that we did not rely on any outstanding individual players which helped us outplay them tactically because it made it difficult for the opposition to predict our game. It is not surprising that only one of our players ended up among the individual awardees.”
