Resovia completes amazing comeback to make PlusLiga finals
News from the clubs
Rzeszow, Poland, April 18, 2014. Asseco Resovia RZESZOW completed on Thursday a spectacular comeback in the semifinals of the PlusLiga edging Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE by 3:1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21) to book a ticket to the Championship series where they will take on PGE Skra BELCHATOW.
The semis with Zaksa had turned into a sort of mission impossible for Resovia that lost the first and second round and was additionally side-lined by the injury of their captain Aleh Akhrem, who suffered a torn ACL and will be out for minimum six months. Akhrem will undergo surgery in Italy but even without the Belarusian star player Resovia delivered a superb performance on Thursday night to win the semifinal series by 3:2.
RZESZOW will now try to claim the crown for a third straight year and stand the challenge brought by Poland’s seven-time champions PGE Skra. The first and second round of the finals will be played next Tuesday and Wednesday in Rzeszow.
Zaksa will play JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel – bronze medalist of this year’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – in the playoff for third and fourth place.
