VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN and BERLIN to star in Bundesliga finals
News from the clubs

Friedrichshafen, Germany, April 17, 2014. VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN will be playing BERLIN Recycling Volleys in the final of this year’s Bundesliga after the “Häfler” ended their semi-final series with Generali UNTERHACHING with a 3:1 away victory in the fourth round of play (25-17, 25-17, 20-25, 25-23). BERLIN Recycling Volleys, on the other hand, had needed only three rounds to edge past TV Ingersoll BÜHL in the other semi. The Championship series will get started on Sunday, April 27, and will be played according as a best-of-five.

VfB displayed an excellent performance for two and a half sets of their fourth match with Generali before they somehow lost control of the operations and the hosts could call for a fourth set. However, VfB regrouped and with the contribution of their opposite Ventceslav Simeonov they eventually scored the victory they were longing for. This means that VfB and BERLIN will fill up Germany’s two spots for the 2015 edition of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League.

Germany’s two leading forces in men’s Volleyball will now prolong their rivalry with BERLIN hoping to retain their title and VfB very determined to bring the crown back to the Lake of Constance. “We lost our focus in the third set,” said VfB head coach Stelian Moculescu after his team’s victory over Generali. “Simeonov showed his class in the fourth set where he scored many important points even though we were being booed by the audience.”
“This match clearly shows the importance of psychology in this game,” said team captain Max Günthör. “We dominated the game for two and a half sets but when time had come to finish it off, we were not able to do that. Things turned completely around in the fourth set where it looked like Generali was dictating the pace of the game but in the end we won the set and the match.”
