Baku, Azerbaijan, April 10, 2014. Azerbaijan has already filled up its quota for the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women. With Rabita BAKU and Azeryol BAKU qualifying for the championship series of the Azerbaijani Super League, all other clubs from the Caspian country will have to rely on the possibility to receive wild cards if they want to participate in the next edition of Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
Rabita and Azeryol, both of which participated in the 2014 edition of the Champions League, won their semifinal playoffs in their domestic league and will face each other in a battle for the national title. Each of them moves forward after claiming two victories to none in their best-of-three semifinal series.
Having won the first match against archrival Azerrail BAKU by 3:1, the defending champions Rabita were even more convincing in the second match. Eldar Yusubov’s team shut out its opponent by 3:0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-19).
The third representative of Azerbaijan in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League, Igtisadchi BAKU, failed to make it to the championship series in the Super League. Azeryol had defeated Igtisadchi by 3:1 in the first game of their semifinal playoff and repeated this result in the second. Coach Angelo Anibal Vercesi’s squad claimed a 3:1 (28-26, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20) victory over the Economists to get a shot at dethroning Rabita in the final.
Azerrail and Igtisadchi will lock horns in a fight for the bronze.
