Halkbank and Fenerbahce heading towards Turkish League finals
News from the clubs
Istanbul/Ankara, Turkey, April 9, 2014. After leaving their mark on the European Cups season that just came to a close, Halkbank ANKARA and Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL are rapidly heading to the Championship series of the Turkish national league sponsored by Acibadem.
Halkbank opened the semi-final with ISTANBUL BBSK by scoring a speedy 3:0 away victory (25-16, 25-18, 25-15) over the team that made the semis of this year’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup. Halkbank did even not include their star setter Raphael Vieira de Oliveira among the 12 players nominated for this game but still the silver medallists from this year’s CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League imposed their rule from the start through to the end of the game with four players finishing in double digits (Matey Kaziyski top scored with 13 points, followed by Emre Batur with 11, while Osmany Juantorena and Burutay Subasi recorded 10 apiece).
As for Fenerbahce Grundig, the winners of the 2014 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup played three close sets in their first match with Arkas IZMIR but still their victory was never in danger (25-23, 25-21, and 25-17). The foreign trio composed of Ivan Miljkovic, Luis Felipe Fonteles and Leonel Marshall paced Fenerbahce on their way to this straight victory waiting now for the second round scheduled for April 17 after the National Cup Final Four coming up this weekend in Izmir (see here). The eventual third match will be played on April 19.
