PAOK THESSALONIKI has to be content with seventh place at the end of regular season
News from the clubs
Thessaloniki, Greece, April 7, 2014. PAOK THESSALONIKI just edged Pamvohaikos VRAHATI in the last round of the Hellenic Volleyball League by 3:2 (22-25, 27-25, 20-25, 28-26, 15-5) to confirm their seventh place in the current standing of the competition. This means that PAOK will be playing G.C. LAMIA away from home in the first round of the Playoffs coming up for positions 5 to 8.
Greece’s representative in this year’s CEV Volleyball Cup where they lost to Germany’s TV Ingersoll BÜHL, PAOK needed to score a victory by 3:0 or 3:1 to move up to sixth place and to hope for G.C. LAMIA defeat in their match with Iraklis KIFISIA in the last round of the regular season. However, Pamvohaikos proved to be a very strong opponent and after taking the lead by 2:1 sets, the hopes of PAOK to move up in the standing were already gone. They still found enough energy to claim a very dramatic fourth set by 28-26 before they went on to dominate the tie-break (15-5).
As already mentioned, PAOK will be playing next Saturday G.C. LAMIA in the first round of the Playoffs 5-8. The players from Thessaloniki will be trying to redeem for their two defeats during the regular season. The winner of this match will then cross the ways of A.E.K. ATHENS or Pamvohaikos in the next round.
Shortly before the start of the match with Pamvohaikos, PAOK THESSALONIKI Bradley Lawson received the award for the MVP of the twentieth round of the regular season by the President of the Hellenic Volleyball League, Giorgos Andreou.
