Uralochka routs Dinamo Romprest in CEV Cup Challenge Round
2014 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women
Ekaterinburg, Russia, February 4, 2014. Russia’s Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG cruised to a straight-set victory on Tuesday to open the Challenge Round of the 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women. Uralochka made a first step on their way to the semis as they routed Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI (25-19, 25-20, and 25-20) waiting now for the return game coming up next week in Romania. The winner of this double-header will play in the semis Germany’s DRESDNER SC or Khimik YUZHNY of the Ukraine.
Even though both teams were missing one of their leading players – Yumilka Ruiz for the hosts of Uralochka and Mariya Karakasheva for Dinamo Romprest – the game was very close and exciting right from the go. Uralochka claimed a small lead early in the first and second set and could hold on to it all the way through the final 25-19 and 25-20. The third set was even closer and Uralochka needed to rely on a strong performance by their middle-blockers to edge past in straight sets. Irina Zaryazhko and Sinead Jack top scored in the end for the winning side with 18 and 14 points respectively.
Uralochka assistant coach Stanislav Salikov was happy with his team’s performance: “We could control the match quite easily tonight. However, we are expecting a much tougher game next week in Romania as we know that their best players will be back in action for the second round.”
