Two PGE Skra’s players make the move to CBL Polonia LONDON in January transfer window

Belchatow, Poland, January 28, 2014. Two of PGE Skra BELCHATOW’s athletes have made the move to CBL Polonia LONDON in this January transfer window. Dawid Konieczny and Krzysztof Kowalewski, two members of PGE Skra’s squad, will be sent out on loan to the London club for the remainder of the season.
PGE Skra BELCHATOW Club Chairman Konrad Piechocki said: “When initially forming our clubs’ partnership we agreed on close collaboration on many fronts.”
Deputy Chairman of CBL Polonia Bartek Łuszcz added: “Volleyball England has never seen a transfer of this calibre with such a high profile and hugely decorated club. I am very happy that PGE Skra is serious about taking an active part in this relationship. Many people in the UK are taking a keen interest in our relationship and everyone wants to learn from the best. Volleyball in England is at a key stage in the sport’s development and PGE Skra sharing its wealth of experience as well as players to these shores will be hugely beneficial.”
In PGE Skra’s most recent league match against Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE, Konieczny (see picture, #18) made an appearance on court in the final set, replacing World Championships’ runner up and Polish international, Daniel Plinski.
On his move to England, Konieczny said: “Making the move to England will bring new challenges. Sometimes you need to take one step back to move two forwards. I’d like to go there and show what I have learnt training and playing with the PGE Skra 1st team.”
Kowalewski hasn’t yet had the opportunity to play in the PlusLiga but at just 19 is likely to make an impact on the game in years to come. Konieczny (outside hitter) and Kowalewski (middle-blocker) will be playing the rest of the season for CBL Polonia London who will hope that these two young players will be able to strengthen their squad going into the crucial stages of the Volleyball England National Cup and Super 8s Playoffs.
