Austrian rookie hopes to cause a sensation by upsetting titleholders Lokomotiv
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men
Klagenfurt, Austria, December 16, 2013. Austrian rookie Posojilnica AICH/DOB will play on Wednesday their last game in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men by hosting Russia’s Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK at the Sportpark in Klagenfurt. Though Lokomotiv – winner of the Champions League last March – is out of contention for a spot in the Playoffs 12, the match is expected to turn into a real challenge for the home heroes of Posojilnica. If they seize the night, the Austrians would celebrate their greatest achievement in international competitions even though they already know that anyway their European campaign will come to a close via this game.
“We all know the strength of Lokomotiv” says head coach Martin Micheu, who replaced Johan Verstappen at the helm of the team a couple of weeks ago. “However, I do believe in my players and know they can achieve something big if they play their best. With the support of 2,000 fans that we expect will come together at the Sportpark, everything is possible” he adds.
The match will celebrate another highlight as Posojilnica will unveil their new mascot AIDO whose task is to help create a great atmosphere in the hall. Lokomotiv is already eliminated from this competition but will surely play motivated to make the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup. Many fans from all over the region of Carinthia are therefore set to come to Klagenfurt for what shall be a world-class Volleyball night.
