Romanian rookie Stiinta BACAU vies for spot in CEV Cup Challenge Round
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women
Bacau, Romania, December 15, 2013. Romania’s rookie Stiinta BACAU will try to seize the night on Tuesday as they play their last match in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women hosting Poland’s Tauron MKS DABROWA GORNICZA. After losing on Thursday their last away game to Volero ZÜRICH, Stiinta is currently ranked fourth in Pool F where Dinamo KAZAN and Volero have claimed the ticket to the Playoffs 12. However, Stiinta and Tauron MKS will be fighting for third place so as to continue their European campaign in the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup.
Stiinta will need to score a 3:0 or 3:1 home victory in order to claim third place in the Pool and head coach Florin Grapa believes that this is a mission his players can accomplish. “We lost some points in Switzerland as well as in Poland but this is due to our lack of experience at this level. That said, we still have the possibility to play our last match at home and if we beat Tauron MKS, we can move to the Challenge Round of the CEV Cup. I am very confident that my players – with the help of our fans – can achieve this goal. It is not going to be easy but we can get our second victory in this competition.”
“We have gone through ups and downs in this campaign” says Stiinta setter Kim Staelens. “We only have scored one victory so far but I believe that we can get another on Tuesday. Since our team is debuting this year in this competition, I think that if we finish the prelims with two wins, this could be a very respectable achievement.”
Opposite Mihaela Herlea concludes: “A home victory on Tuesday would mean a lot not only to us but also to our supporters. For this reason we will fight for every point so as to win this game and be promoted to the Challenge Round of the CEV Volleyball Cup.”
