Dinamo MOSCOW cements leadership in Pool B
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Moscow, Russia, December 4, 2013. Dinamo MOSCOW added another victory to Russia’s count this week in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women as the side from Russia’s capital city edged Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD of Serbia 3:1 (25-14, 25-13, 22-25, and 25-16) to cement their leadership in Pool B. Dinamo tops the charts with 10 points and will keep first place even after completion of the other game in the Pool starring RebecchiNMeccanica PIACENZA of Italy and Azerbaijan’s Igtisadchi BAKU.
Anytime Crvena Zvezda travels to Russia’s capital city – this is already the third season in a row – they always get full support from their twin club, Spartak, and some fans of that Russian team were there also tonight at the Druzhba sports hall to support the ladies dressed in red and white stripes.
The local fans were also a bit surprised as Dinamo opted for a different starting six than the one they are used to: Marina Akulova, Sanja Popovic, Anastasia Markova, Olga Zhitova, and Valeriya Goncharova were lined up together with Nataliya Obmochaeva and libero Ekaterina Tretyakova.
Everything went just easy for Dinamo in the opening set with the home heroines playing relaxed and easily cashing the final 25-14. Things did not change also in the second set where Popovic scored four aces and Obmochaeva was also very effective paving the way for a terrific 25-13 and 2:0 lead in sets. Crvena Zvezda eventually achieved their goal to take at least one set from this game as they caught a good start in the third section of the game and with a bit of luck they brought it home with the score of 22-25. Still Dinamo got back full control of the operations in the fourth (25-16) to win three points from this game.
“We have a strong group of players and I am happy with what they did tonight” said Dinamo head coach Svetlana Ilic after the game. “They all played with much motivation and a good attitude.”
“We were all ready to play and we did so showing our high spirits” added Olga Zhitova. “It was a very important game especially before we take on the last two rounds playing there Igtisadchi and Italy’s champions.”
