Italian rookie PIACENZA prepares for CL home debut

Piacenza, Italy, October 27, 2013. After losing 1:3 to Dinamo MOSCOW on Tuesday, Italy’s champions and rookies RebecchiNMeccanica PIACENZA are currently preparing for their home debut in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women. This coming Thursday they will vie for their first victory in Europe’s elite club competition as they host Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD at the PalaBanca.
After dominating the scene in Italy last season seizing their first title in the national league, the players and the management of RebecchiNMeccanica PIACENZA want more and would love to make a statement also on the international stage.
Their participation in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League as well as the home game with Crvena Zvezda were the main items discussed in a press conference held on Thursday at the PalaBanca shortly after the players had returned home from Moscow.
“We know that Thursday night will be a very special moment not only for us, but also for the city of Piacenza” said head coach Gianni Caprara. “We are thoroughly preparing for this home debut as we want to give our fans something to cheer about. This game with Crvena Zvezda is of utmost importance if we want to make it to the Playoffs.”
“We traveled back from Russia in high spirits” added team captain and 2002 world champion Manuela Leggeri. “Of course we are not happy with that defeat to Dinamo but our performance was very encouraging and we got the right boost for the upcoming game with Crvena Zvezda. We will play our best in order to seize the night. We are taking care even of the smallest details in our preparations and we are quite optimistic going into this match with BEOGRAD.”
