Ninth consecutive championship title for ACH Volley
News from the clubs

Ljubljana, Slovenia, April 23, 2013. This past week ACH Volley LJUBLJANA clinched its ninth consecutive title in the Slovenian national championship by winning the fourth match against Calcit Volleyball in Kamnik. This is already the tenth title for the now Ljubljana-based team.
In the final – played with the formula “best of five” – ACH Volley was tested hard by its rivals from Kamnik and had to dig deep to clinch its ninth consecutive title. After winning the first final match easily (3:0; 25-20, 25-15, and 25-18), it seemed as if the guys from Ljubljana would just cruise to their ninth consecutive crown. But KAMNIK bounced back in front of its home crowd in the second match. Although the team lead by head coach Luka Slabe won the first set, its performance wasn’t as good as in the previous matches and they had to admit their first defeat in the Slovenian championship after three years (25-18, 21-25, 23-25, 25-14, and 9-15). ACH Volley nevertheless won the next two matches, at home 3:1 (26-28, 25-23, 27-25, and 25-22), and away 3:0 (25-21, 25-19, and 25-13) and thus secured the championship title.

Head coach Luka Slabe was satisfied with his team’s overall performance this year. “We won the Slovenian cup, the Middle European League and now the Slovenian championship. Calcit Volleyball put up a good fight, but in the end we were stronger and made fewer mistakes. We also made it among the top 12 in the CEV Volleyball Champions League. This was a good season for me and the team”.
But Slabe and some of the players of ACH Volley won’t have much time to rest after the long season as it is time to join the national team and play in the qualifications for the World and European Championships.
