Tomis CONSTANTA adds U17 title to fourth crown in senior national league
News from the clubs

Constanta, Romania, April 22, 2013. After the senior team had claimed Romania’s national league for the fourth time in their history only a week ago, the U17 players of Tomis CONSTANTA did emulate their more illustrious colleagues by winning their respective national championship for the second consecutive season. After winning the title last year in Baia Mare, this year the young players of Tomis could celebrate their second “hurrah” in Dej where the finals came to a close on Sunday, April 21.
“We were considered the major contender for the title and we eventually showed that we are the best team in this age group” head coach Razvan Parpala says.

Tomis CONSTANTA swept all of their five matches in the final tournament held in Dej opening by edging CSS 3 Steaua BUCURESTI and CSS 1 CONSTANTA in straight sets, before they bested the hosts of CSS Lapi DEJ 3:2 (25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 25-13, and 15-13) and eventually continued their splendid run with another two straight-set victories over CSS ZALAU and CSS Bega TIMISOARA.

Adrian Aciobanitei – who is not yet 16 but this year was already included in the group that participated in the CEV Volleyball Champions League – was voted MVP of the final tournament, with Robert Vologa and Paul Camui claiming the honors for the best middle-blocker and libero respectively. The group placed under the guidance of head coach Razvan Parpala and his assistant Iulian Radulescu included also Alexandru Muscina, Andrei Pavel, Andrei Diamandescu, Catalin Aciobanitei, Iulian Petcu, Radu Dediulescu, George Gavriz, Ovidiu Darlaczi and Onur Omer. Muscina, Diamandescu, Vologa, Petcu, Gavriz, Camui and Adrian Aciobanitei were part of the group already last year as Tomis CONSTANTA won their first national title in the U17 division.

“It is a great satisfaction but also this title stands as another confirmation of the great work that we have been doing with children and young players in Constanta” says Tomis Executive Director Sarhan Cadar. “This year we could even celebrate this victory after our senior team had claimed the national league. We started out this project in 2009 under the slogan “Today’s children, tomorrow’s champions” and last year we switched it to “Yesterday’s children, today’s champions”. After this second consecutive title and such a memorable season for our club we shall probably change it again into “senior champions and young champions”. Anyway, we want to be on top in all age groups, that’s our main goal” he continues.
Some more distinctions may follow as Tomis is contention also for the U19, U15 and U13 title with the respective final tournaments coming up in late May.
