Marek Union-Ivkoni wins second straight title in Bulgarian national league

Samokov, Bulgaria, April 7, 2013. After debuting in this year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League, Marek Union-Ivkoni DUPNITSA completed this past weekend a clean sweep in Bulgaria’s domestic competitions. The group mentored by head coach Nayden Naydenov did follow up on their win in the national cup by claiming also the league after they won also their second game of the Championship series with CVC GABROVO.
They did so by cruising to a straight-set win (25-16, 25-19, and 25-19) as 2,000 fans had got together at “Arena Samokov”. With this result Marek Union-Ivkoni could retain the title they had claimed last year for the first time in their history. Todor Valchev top scored for the winning side with 16 points with Borislav Apostolov and Dmitrii Bahov adding 9 apiece to the count of the champions.
