Steady progress makes Rabita feel confident before second clash with RC CANNES
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Baku, Azerbaijan, January 20, 2013. After sweeping all of their prelim matches in this year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League, the vice world champions of Rabita BAKU scored a 3:1 away win this past Wednesday as they crossed their ways with last year’s silver medalists RC CANNES in the Playoffs 12. Rabita imposed their supremacy there with a terrific show contributed by their Colombian opposite Madelaynne Montano and by their libero Brenda Castillo among others.
This coming Thursday Rabita will host RC CANNES and try to score a home victory to make it to the Playoffs 6 without the risks resulting from an eventual golden set. “Even though it is always difficult to play in Cannes, we could claim the first match and I am very happy with our performance there” says Rabita team captain Mira Golubovic. “We will try to stay focused and finish our job also to delight our supporters” she adds.
“My team has been showing great quality recently and I am very happy that we are moving forward” adds head coach Marcello Abbondanza, who last year had finished the Champions League in fourth place while mentoring Italy’s MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE. “I hope that we can keep that momentum and score another win to advance to the next round”.
