Bre Banca Lannutti CUNEO stays unbeaten after another straight win
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men
Sète, France, December 6, 2012. Even though some of their best players – namely Nikola Grbic, Luigi Mastrangelo and Wout Wijsmans – had stayed at home getting ready for an extremely important match in the national league against Lube Banca Marche MACERATA, Italy’s Bre Banca Lannutti CUNEO scored its fifth consecutive win in prelim Pool G of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men, edging Arago de SETE in straight sets (25-16, 25-22, and 25-16).
The score had initially remained very close up to 13 all in the first set; however, Tsvetan Sokolov and Earvin Ngapeth accelerated the pace for CUNEO (14:19) before young Dutch setter Nimir Abdel-Aziz went to serve and widened the gap even more (14:21). The first set was eventually sealed by Sokolov with a block on Stanislas Rabiller.
Still Arago de SETE fought bravely also in the second set up to 18 all, but once more the final rush fully belonged to the Italians that were anchored by an impressive Sokolov (who registered 20 points at the end of the game).
Oleg Antonov replaced Abdel-Aziz as setter in set 3 but CUNEO kept firmly control of the game (15:19) and SETE had to accept its second defeat to the Italians as Dore Della Lunga sealed the final 16-25. With CUNEO heading confidently into the Playoffs 12, Arago de SETE will fight next week in Poland against Asseco Resovia RZESZOW hoping to get the points that are necessary to make it to the Challenge Round of the CEV Cup.
