Generali bests Euphony to keep the door to Playoffs still open
2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men

Gent, Belgium, December 5, 2012. Euphony ASSE-LENNIK played with glowing hearts on Wednesday night in an attempt to get its first win in the prelims of the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League, but the hosts were eventually ousted by Generali UNTERHACHING of Germany with the score of 1:3 (21-25, 19-25, 25-18, and 24-26). With this result Generali remains in contention for a spot in the Playoffs 12 and will battle next week with ACH Volley LJUBLJANA for making it to the next stage of Europe’s most elitist competition.
Head coach Marko Klok had revolutionized his starting line-up after the departure of opposite Eivo Zuravljov. Slovak Jozef Piovarci had taken this position but Generali started out much focused and determined (8:11) with Belgian-born Matias Raymaekers standing out in offense and blocking. The hosts fought bravely with Piovarci but the first and second sets eventually went to Generali (21-25 and 19-25).
ASSE-LENNIK finally fought back in set 3 where the home heroes stepped up the quality of their play and with Piovarci well supported by Thomas Jarmoc and Dejan Radic, Euphony could call for the fourth set (25-18). However, Generali got back control of the game in set 4 and even though Euphony – helped by the local crowd – was close to stretch the match to the tie-break, the Germans sealed that section at 24-26 to celebrate their third win in the competition.
As for Euphony, the Belgians will complete their European campaign next week by playing Pool leader Lube Banca Marche MACERATA of Italy.
