BERLIN captain Scott Touzinsky can't wait for start of the season
News from the clubs

Berlin, Germany, October 10, 2012. Gearing up for the new season, the BERLIN Recycling Volleys have appointed a new team captain as Jaroslav Skach signed a contract with the French first division team of BOUC Volley Beauvais. After the Czech setter reliably marshalled the German national champion for seven years, head coach Mark Lebedew needed to fill the post anew. The decision was made for US spiker Scott Touzinsky. After his appointment, we briefly talked to the 2008 Olympic champion.

After Jaroslav Skach left Berlin this past summer, you have been appointed the new team captain of BERLIN Recycling Volleys. What does this vote of confidence mean to you?
It means a lot to me that Mark and the group put their trust in me. They believe in me and my capability of leading the team – I’m very happy about it and I appreciate this opportunity.

What do you think will be your major tasks as the new team captain?
My main responsibility will be acting as the connecting link in the communication between players, coaches, the medical department and the side of the management. I want to make sure that we get along well with each other and will all pull in the same direction.

A week on Monday, the BERLIN Recycling Volleys will celebrate the start of the new season with the first match against VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN. How is the atmosphere in the team?
The atmosphere is pretty good, we’re ready to start in the new season. Everybody gets along well with each other as if we were a big family.

Can you wait for the season to start?

I so look forward to the upcoming challenges and I am keen to see what the new season brings. We will try hard to defend our title in the German Bundesliga. And honestly, I can’t wait to play in the Champions League with our amazing crowd behind us.

What are your expectations for the 2013 CEV Volleyball Champions League?
Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK is the clear-cut favorite in our group. Nonetheless we will fight for the second place to make it to the Playoffs 12.
