Hungary gears up for European League home round
2012 CEV Volleyball European League - Women
Budapest, Hungary, June 6, 2012. Hungary women’s national team debuted last year in the CEV Volleyball European League thereby getting some valuable experience especially for the young players. This year the group started their campaign last weekend in Subotica, eventually losing three consecutive matches, but is looking forward to the home round that is coming up this week at “Sportmax Hegyvidék” in Budapest.
A press conference was held on Wednesday in Budapest, with the President of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation, Tamás Tóth, in attendance together with Secretary General Péter Földvárí, a representative from the local City Council, Gábor Rétai, head coach Zoltán Jókay, players Dóra Hórvath and Julia Milovits, as well as Mr. Lajos Kern, who is responsible for marketing ERREA, i.e. the brand-new sponsor of the team, in Hungary.
“Two years ago we started a project whose aim was to bring Hungarian Volleyball back to the international arena. Last year the players got a lot of valuable experience and they shall profit of this. I feel it as a true honor to play with Serbia which is part of the world’s elite; at the same time we would like to deliver a good performance while testing out the likes of Romania and Spain” said Tamás Tóth.
“Via the experience we got last week in Serbia I think we have got the chance to win two matches here in Budapest” added head coach Jókay. “Last weekend we lacked consistency and I hope the home advantage will help us by creating a good atmosphere around us. Serbia is well above us as they recently qualified for the Olympics but I think we can have our chance with Spain as well as with Romania. We are improving match after match and so I hope that in Budapest we will be able to show our best and win”.
Via this home round the Federation and the local authorities hope to boost the popularity of the sport in Hungary’s capital city, with school pupils able to visit also the training sessions to get familiar with the ABC of Volleyball. Apart from this, Hungary’s national team will be sponsored for the next two years by ERREA, as the Italian company will be providing the players with sportswear and all necessary accessories.
