Denmark's guys feel eager to join European League
2012 CEV Volleyball European League - Men
Copenhagen, Denmark, June 1, 2012. As they are preparing for the home European Champs scheduled for next year and that their country will be co-hosting together with Poland, the players of Denmark’s national team will be confronted this weekend with their first, tough challenge as they debut in the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League, playing the hosts of Spain, plus Slovakia and Greece in Teruel.
Denmark will open with a very demanding game against Spain, last year’s silver medalist, with the hosts that will be loudly supported by the home fans there in Teruel, a real Volleyball city. Next will be on Saturday the 2011 champions of Slovakia, a group that recently competed in the Olympic qualifying event that took place in Sofia and that is already qualified for the final round of the 2013 European Championship after delivering a splendid performance last year in Austria and Czech Republic.
“We are very glad to join the European League and to play there some of the strongest teams in Europe. This will be a good test to start figuring out where we stand with still one year to go for the European Championship taking place here in Denmark” says the Technical Director of the Danish Volleyball Federation, Mikael Trolle. “We have three tough matches ahead this weekend but I am curious to see what kind of performance the guys will be able to deliver after working together for the past month” he adds. “All of our opponents started their campaign last week in Greece and so probably we will need this weekend to adapt to the rhythm of the matches. I believe we will be able to take some points from the matches coming up in the next weeks as the European League moves first to Israel before stopping in Denmark” concludes Trolle.
