Superb Noliko MAASEIK wins fourteenth title
News from the clubs
Maaseik, Belgium, April 22, 2012. Noliko MAASEIK claimed this Saturday Belgium’s national league for the fourteenth time in history by finishing the Championship series against the archrivals of Euphony ASSE-LENNIK with a 3:1 win (23-25, 25-14, 25-10 and 27-25) to celebrate that special joy together with 2'300 fans who contributed a fantastic atmosphere at “Lotto Dôme”.
Actually Euphony, while trying to extend that series after suffering two defeats in the previous matches of the Playoffs finals, caught a good start there by claiming a close opening set with the score of 25-23. However, the home heroes did not lose composure and displayed some high-class Volleyball, always loudly and passionately supported by the local audience, to comfortably sweep set 2 and 3 (25-14 and 25-10). The fourth set was extremely tight with ASSE-LENNIK being able to show some good resistance before Noliko scored the deciding points to finish it off at 27-25.
Special celebrations followed that game especially in order to honor head coach Vital Heynen for his great achievements as player first and mentor afterwards of the club from Limburg. Heynen, who is about to start his adventure at the helm of Germany’s national team with the goal to make it to the London Olympics, said: “This was the perfect end of an already memorable season as we claimed the Supercup, the national cup, performed well in the Champions League and we have rounded it out with yet another title in the national championship. I am grateful to the club for these great years together and I am convinced that my follower, Brecht van Kerckhove, will be successful too”.
