ACH Volley LJUBLJANA signs young Slovenian coach for next season
News from the clubs
Ljubljana, Slovenia, April 16, 2012. Luka Slabe was recently appointed head coach of Slovenia’s Volleyball standout ACH Volley LJUBLJANA thereby replacing Igor Kolakovic whose contract was terminated at the end of the current season. Kolakovic is returning back to Serbia and will devote most of his time to the players of the national team that were crowned European champions last year in Vienna. As for Slabe, he is moving to ACH Volley after mentoring UKO Kropa and Calcit KAMNIK in the past couple of years, thereby qualifying for the finals of Slovenia’s national cup and national league.
“After working for several years with foreign coaches, Glenn Hoag first and then Igor Kolakovic, ACH Volley has decided to hire a Slovenian mentor” says club President Rasto Oderlap. “We are very happy for having finalized our negotiations with Slabe as in the past years he did show great energy and skills while guiding his previous teams in our domestic competitions. While coaching ACH Volley, he will be able to test his knowledge also on the international scene. This is a very audacious step for our club but we fully trust Slabe. By nominating a head coach who originally hails from Slovenia we made another step forward in our strategy to get together a strong group of players and coaches that can successfully represent our club and Slovenia in all future major international competitions”.
“I am very grateful to the management board of ACH Volley for this opportunity” says Slabe (pictured). “This is definitely the strongest Volleyball side here in Slovenia and one of the best in Europe as well. It is just a dream for any Slovenian coach and many foreigners to guide this team. This cooperation with ACH Volley represents a challenge and at the same time, a unique opportunity and privilege for me. I know the club has set ambitious goals and our fans have got very high expectations. We definitely want to re-assert our supremacy in Slovenia, retain the title in the Middle European League and go as far as possible in the next edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League. I have a huge responsibility on my shoulders but I can’t wait for the start of my work with ACH Volley. I am convinced that by working together with the players and all the officials we will fulfil our plans” he stresses.
The roster of ACH Volley for the 2012/2013 season shall be finalized in May as negotiations and individual talks are currently taking place with all players.
