Warsaw, Poland, March 28, 2012. After making it to the 1/8 finals of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League, Atom Trefl SOPOT was crowned Poland’s champion as yesterday the group mentored by Alessandro Chiappini finished the Championship series with Bank BPS Fakro MUSZYNA with a 3:2 win (25-22, 25-27, 25-27, 25-13, 15-11) to contribute the third win out of four matches.
Atom Trefl started the game by imposing its rhythm and profiting of the many mistakes that were committed by the players coached by Bogdan Serwinski the score quickly moved up to a massive 20:14. However, MUSZYNA fought back to -1 (23:22) but could not complete such a great comeback as SOPOT scored the next two rallies to wrap it up at 25-22.
SOPOT dominated the scene also in the second set sailing away to a comfortable 24:19 and it looked like none could stop that marvelous run. However, as Agnieszka Bednarek-Kasza joined the game for MUSZYNA, she literally turned the charts around and her side pocketed that section of the match with the score of 25-27.
MUSZYNA stretched that good momentum also the opening phases of set 3 going up by 4 points before Atom Trefl stormed back to draw level at 14. The score stayed very tight until the end and even though SOPOT went up by 2 (21:19), still the outcome was negative for the home side as Bank BPS Fakro went for a second consecutive 25-27.
Atom Trefl dictated the pace of the game in set 4 and easily seized that section with the score of 25-13, calling for the tie-break and being well supported by Eleonora Dziekiewicz. MUSZYNA opened strongly in the deciding set enjoying a margin of 2 but before teams changed sides of the court, once again some stellar play of Dziekiewicz made the difference for SOPOT (8:5). The audience enjoyed a classy game with many great actions in defense and superb blocks on both sides of the net, before SOPOT could celebrate its first Championship title as the last rally was sealed by Corina Ssuschke-Voigt.
Middle blocker Eleonora Dziekiewicz – who scored a total of 23 points all alone – was named MVP of the final series that had started with a 3:0 win for MUSZYNA, followed by three consecutive victories for Atom Trefl.
