Bank BPS Fakro disappointed with outcome of CL campaign
News from the clubs
Muszyna, Poland, February 13, 2012. The adventure of Bank BPS Fakro MUSZYNA in the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League ended up in a couple of defeats to France’s RC CANNES in the Playoffs 12. This caused some disappointment since the expectations were much higher. “After losing twice in straight sets to RC CANNES I got a serious headache” says head coach Bogdan Serwinski. “And this result sounds like a failure” he adds recalling that last year his players had edged MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE at that same stage of the competition.
The players agree with the coach and are disappointed too, especially after they had displayed some good Volleyball in the opening set of the return match with RC CANNES. “I have to say that this season we seem to suffer of bad luck and this is really annoying. At the end of the first set there in Cannes our opponents received poorly but the ball eventually fell on our side of the net and they got the point” says Serbian-born middle blocker Vesna Djurisic.
“Of course we can not attribute our defeats only to bad luck. We have to analyze what we have been doing this year and actually I do not care much about who was standing on the other side of the court. Our style of play means much more to me, so I hope that we will step up and claim what remains to be won this season” she adds.
The European campaign had actually started pretty encouragingly for the players from the tiny village located in southern Poland, with three consecutive wins in prelim Pool E. However, after beating Scavolini PESARO and Dinamo MOSCOW in their away matches, the Poles did not repeat that same feat in front of the home audience. Via two wins against Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD they ended up in third place in their group and were finally drawn to play this year’s phenomenon RC CANNES. The players from the French Riviera downed Bank BPS Fakro twice and always in straight sets: “As for the Playoffs 12, RC CANNES was definitely stronger and we have to admit that we could not achieve more” singles out coach Serwinski.
