News from the clubs
Istanbul, Turkey, November 16, 2011. After causing a major sensation this past March by claiming the trophy Turkey’s VakifBank TTelekom ISTANBUL is openly targeting another success as the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League is set to start later this month.
Mr. Ramazan Yildirim, chairman of the club, is optimistic about this campaign that will be opened by an away match in Italy against Norda Foppapedretti BERGAMO: “Our initial goal is to qualify for the next phase with a good record and compete in the final four. We have full confidence in our technical staff and players. We will try to represent Turkey as good as we can”.
With head coach Giovanni Guidetti being busy with Germany’s national team at the FIVB World Cup in Japan, assistant coach Salih Tavaci attended that special press conference by asserting: “We have to improve the results from the last season and we are working hard with this only purpose. We want to retain our crown in the Champions League and we hope to attain this goal with the always unique support of our fans”.
Team captain Gözde Kirdar Sonsirma concluded: “We have a lot of pressure this season after winning the trophy last year. Our main goal is to finish first in our Pool and then qualify for the final four step by step. We had a physical and psychological rest after the busy weeks with the national team and we feel ready for our first game in Italy”. Apart from BERGAMO, Azerrail BAKU and Romania’s 2004 Tomis CONSTANTA will be the remaining opponents of VakifBank in Pool D.
