MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE looks forward to second Champions League adventure
News from the clubs
Villa Cortese, Italy, November 15, 2011. “Italian heart, European spirit”: this is the slogan that will accompany MC-Carnaghi VILLA CORTESE in its second adventure in Europe’s most elitist competition, the CEV Volleyball Champions League. Passion and enthusiasm were to be clearly perceived as the officials and players joined yesterday a media event devoted to this European campaign that will start with a home match against France’s RC CANNES scheduled for November 30.
Returning back from Baku where he headed the Bulgarian national team to book a spot for next year’s Olympic qualification tournament, head coach Marcello Abbondanza said: “We have been assigned to a very tough Pool. RC CANNES and Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL are certainly two of the top contenders for the final crown. SCHWERINER SC reflects the great development of Volleyball in Germany confirmed by their silver medal at the European Champs, so we must treat also this opponent with much respect. I have a good team and we want to improve the results from our first season in the Champions League. Last year we played a good League Round but then we lost in the Playoffs 12 at the golden set”.
Puerto Rican Aurea Cruz, one of the strongest players included in the roster of VILLA CORTESE, added: “I still remember very well the tears and disappointment after our elimination. Today we start another story and we want to write it until the end, until the Final Four that will take place in Baku. Our team has changed dramatically during the summer. We have changed 5 players from our starting six. We have less experience in comparison with last year, but we are motivated and very hungry so I’m sure that we can fight for the best result”.
