BERGAMO is back hoping for yet another title
News from the clubs
Bergamo, Italy, November 15, 2011. Italy’s champion Norda Foppapedretti BERGAMO is also looking forward to the start of its adventure in the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League. A special media event was organized yesterday at the premises of the “Antegnate” shopping mall with club President Luciano Bonetti in attendance together with General Manager Giovanni Panzetti.
The Italians will open their campaign with a home match scheduled for November 30 against the reigning champions of VakifBank TTelekom ISTANBUL. Two away matches will follow in the next couple of weeks, first in Romania against 2004 Tomis CONSTANTA and then in Azerbaijan against Azerrail BAKU. “The CEV Volleyball Champions League is a great event and we want to perform well” says head coach Davide Mazzanti. “We will immediately have a tough test against the defending champions from Turkey and then go to Azerbaijan for another challenge but our team is very motivated and wants to claim good results”.
Four players added to the roster attended the press conference to join a question time with the journalists, namely libero Angela Gabbiadini, spikers Valentina Diouf – a junior World champion with Italy’s national team this past summer in Peru -, Annamaria Quaranta and Chiara Di Iulio. “Bergamo is a synonym for Volleyball and it is a real honor to defend the honors of this club” stated Di Iulio. “Last year I won the CEV Cup with my former club in Urbino but the Champions League has a great and unique appeal for all players. We are ready to fight in all domestic and international competitions and we all look forward to the start of this adventure” she added.
Setter Valentina Serena is also back after winning the Champions League with BERGAMO back in 2010: “It was an incredible emotion there in Cannes to play that final with Fenerbahce. I hope there are still more wins to follow to the delight of our fans”.
