Pesaro, Italy, November 14, 2011. Italy’s Scavolini PESARO is basically ready for the start of its fourth consecutive campaign – actually the fifth in the history of the club – in Europe’s most elitist club competition, i.e. the CEV Volleyball Champions League. Scavolini was assigned by the Drawing of Lots to a tough Pool including Dinamo MOSCOW of Russia, Poland’s Bank BPS Fakro MUSZYNA and Serbia’s Crvena Zvzeda BEOGRAD.
Italy’s champion will open by playing Dinamo MOSCOW this coming December 1 to travel to Serbia a week later, before two matches with MUSZYNA follow first in Italy and then in Poland right before the Christmas holidays. The competition will then resume on January 12 with a home game against Crvena Zvezda and come to a close, at least as far as the League Round is concerned, with an away match in Moscow. Teams ranked first, second and third after the Pool play will advance to the 8th finals, with the very last act of the competition – the final four – already scheduled for March 19-20 in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan.
Many local authorities, including the Mayor of Pesaro, Luca Ceriscioli, the Sports Councilor Enzo Belloni and some more attended a press conference that was joined also by the club President Giancarlo Sorbini, head coach Paolo Tofoli and opposite Serena Ortolani who has moved to the team this past summer after spending some years in Bergamo. “Last year we have learned that when it comes to the Champions League we have to play every single match at our best. This tournament will be very balanced this year as well and even though it is not easy, we want to make it out of the Pool play” states Tofoli. “I love the Champions League, I have won this competition three times and I do not want to stop here. The level is extremely high and we are motivated to do well” adds Ortolani.
“The CEV Volleyball Champions League is a major happening and we are very proud that our city will be playing again host to some matches” concludes Mayor Ceriscioli.
