2012 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Moscow, Russia, October 19, 2011. Dinamo MOSCOW – bronze medalist from last year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League – opened its European campaign this afternoon, this time in the CEV Volleyball Cup, by easily edging Ukraine’s Lokomotyv KHARKIV in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-21).
Although the guests from Ukraine had resumed to the sports hall well before the start of the game and had a long warm-up there, Dinamo immediately assumed control of the match by displaying its usual array of attacks, blocks and great defense. Some mistakes committed by Pavel Kruglov were nevertheless keeping the score a bit close (9:10) but by the second technical time-out Dinamo had again a comfortable lead (16:11). The head coach of Lokomotyv, Yury Filippov, stopped the game at the score of 20:15 but Nikolay Pavlov served strong to finish the set at 25-16.
The guys around former star Yuri Cherednik started strongly also in set 2 (6:3) with setter Sergey Grankin well commanding his spikers, especially Kruglov and Peter Veres. Dmitry Storozhylov joined the match by mid of this set for KHARKIV and Dinamo set the tempo all the way through (16:12, 25-18) with the last point being contributed by an attack of Denis Kalinin from the back row.
Lokomotyv changed some players for the start of set 3 with Storozhylov and Tatarintsev being included in the starting six. However, this did not affect the development of the game with Dinamo never losing control of the game and Veres sealing the final 3:0 for the joy of some 1’000 fans.
