Lube Banca Marche MACERATA is not afraid of tough preliminary group
2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
Macerata, Italy, October 12, 2011. Italy’s Lube Banca Marche MACERATA organized this afternoon a special press conference devoted to the quickly approaching start of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League, with the first home match coming up next Thursday against Russia’s Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK. This past June, as the Drawing of Lots was held in Vienna, the Italians were assigned to Pool E together with the winners of Russia’s national cup, Turkey’s Fenerbahce ISTANBUL and Austria’s Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK.
“This is a very tough group” said captain Igor Omrcen. “However, I think that our team has all the potential to score very good results in this event, which is always very prestigious for our club”.
Head coach Alberto Giuliani singled out the strength of all teams included in Pool E: “I think that our group is the most balanced in the prelims. Our team, together with Lokomotiv and Fenerbahce is sharing the same chances to come out on top of the standings and get the qualification to the next round. But we also have to respect Hypo Tiro since this is a team with a long experience in international competitions. An important and ambitious club as Lube Banca Marche MACERATA has the obligation to advance to the final rounds of all the competitions we are participating in, and the CEV Volleyball Champions League is a primary target”.
General Manager Stefano Recine concluded the press conference and together with the head coach Alberto Giuliani was invited by the journalists to predict which ones are the favorite teams to win the final title. “The level of the teams participating in this edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League is very high, and it is difficult to make any prediction. In any case, I can say that in addition to the teams of our Pool, the strongest competitors are definitely TRENTINO, Bre Banca Lannutti CUNEO, Zenit KAZAN and PGE Skra BELCHATOW even if surprises are never to be excluded”.
