Generali UNTERHACHING opens extremely busy week with convincing win
News from the clubs
Munich, Germany, October 10, 2011. With the first match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League against Bre Banca Lannutti CUNEO already looming large, Generali UNTERHACHING started off a series of four matches in just eleven days with a win. The three-time German cup winner survived the so called “Hell of Brandenburg” with a seemingly convincing 3:0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) win over Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee.
It was the second win of the Bundesliga season after the opening success against German champions and Champions League contestant VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN - and Generali for now sits on top of the table.
Head coach Mihai Paduretu trusted the same starting line-up that a week earlier had defeated the German champions from the Lake of Constance. Again Christian Dünnes, Denis Kaliberda and Alexander Shafranovich (see picture) proved to be the most reliable point collectors, the block with Fredy Cedeno and captain Max Günthör stood firm and libero Sebastian Prüsener and substitute veteran Robert Hupka convinced with good receiving.
“I have repeatedly substituted Hupka for Shafranovich for Alex was nursing a cold last week and was thus handicapped. But one can always bring in Robert without hesitation” Paduretu stated after the match.
Thanks to their good and solid defense the opponent’s feared strikers Sebastian Fuchs and Sebastian Krause did not come into play as usual. Only in the second and third set the club from Brandenburg competed on Generali’s level, in set number two the former club of Unterhaching’s off-season acquisition Sebastian Prüsener was slightly ahead for a while.
Coach Paduretu after the game was satisfied with his team’s performance: “The result is pleasing. In the first set we played very good, in the second we made too many simple mistakes. But this is normal at the beginning of the season. We will be working on these things in the upcoming week”.
The week, however, will already be interrupted on Wednesday when MOERSER SC shows up at the Generali Sports Arena for the second home game of the season for the Bavarians which will be followed by a trip to evivo DÜREN on Saturday and the visit of CUNEO another four days later.
