Eczacibasi and Fenerbahce win Turkey's Supercup

Ankara, Turkey, October 10, 2011. The ladies of Eczacibasi VitrA and the guys of Fenerbahce ISTANBUL claimed this past weekend Turkey’s Supercup as the domestic season got off with this traditional competition this time held in the splendid “Baskent” Volleyball Hall in Ankara. With their 3:1 win, the girls mentored by Italian-born Lorenzo Micelli avoided a hat-trick for FenerbahceAcibadem ISTANBUL that had taken home the trophy for the past couple of years.
Eczacibasi VitrA – winner of last year’s Teledünya national cup – added this competition to their showcase for the first time in history.
A special ceremony was organized by the Turkish Volleyball Federation at the end of the match to celebrate Mr. Nihat Ermihan, first referee of the game who just ended his career to start working actively for the European Refereeing Commission (ERC) chaired by Jan Rek.
On Saturday the men’s Supercup was claimed by Fenerbahce ISTANBUL that edged Turkey’s second representative in the upcoming 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League, Arkas IZMIR 3:0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-22). Fenerbahce had traveled to Ankara with a solid group of fans and played with good momentum to eventually win the title in front of a crowd of 1’500.
