Spain's Supercup goes to Unicaja ALMERIA
News from the clubs
Almeria, Spain, October 7, 2011. Unicaja ALMERIA opened the 2011/2012 season in Spain claiming the Supercup by defeating CAI TERUEL in straight sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-21) in front of some 2’000 fans at the “Pabellon Los Planos”. This was certainly the very best way to celebrate the 25th anniversary since the foundation of the club that already has an impressive showcase of trophies and medals from domestic and international competitions.
US American Jeffrey Menzel was named MVP at the end of the match where he scored a total of 12 points, regularly shaking the defense of CAI TERUEL with his great spikes.
Anyway, Unicaja ALMERIA dominated the scene with a splendid teamwork, where setter Victor Viciana well commanded all of his attackers and a high efficiency was registered also in reception.
“My players played very concentrated and fearless” said head coach Alex Mondi. “This victory is definitely boosting our morale. The distribution of our setter was impeccable and we made the difference with our blocks and defense combined with the attacks of Menzel, Perez and Delgado” added the happy Argentinean-born Mondi.
